Is audio-only (phone) coaching allowed?

Short answer

The rule notes that audio-only telehealth flexibilities for patients at home are extended through the end of 2027 under the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026. Check current CMS instructions before relying on audio-only for coaching.

The rule text uses both "January 1, 2028" (p. 384) and "on or before December 31, 2027" (p. 2061) to describe the same extension. Record the modality in every note.
