How does CPT define health and well-being coaching?
Short answer
CMS adopted the CPT prefatory language: a patient-centered approach in which patients set their own goals, use self-discovery or active learning with health education, and self-monitor behavior, within a relationship with a qualified coach.
The same language says the coach is qualified "by education, training, national examination and, when applicable, licensure/regulation," and has completed a coaching training program meeting a national credentialing organization's standards (rule pp. 375–376). That is why it is worth keeping evidence of coaching-specific training in your credential file.
