Can the supervisor differ from the treating practitioner?
Short answer
Yes. 42 CFR 410.26(b)(5)(iv) says the practitioner supervising the auxiliary personnel need not be the same practitioner treating the patient more broadly.
The supervising practitioner is the one who bills (410.26(b)(5)(v)), so the practice's records should make the supervising relationship clear.
