Do health coaches need to enroll in Medicare or get an NPI?

Short answer

The coaching codes are billed by the supervising practitioner, so coaches do not enroll to bill them. Whether your organization wants you to have an NPI for its own records or claims is a policy question for your employer and billing team.

Don't treat Medicare enrollment as a step toward billing these codes yourself; under the final rule, only the supervising practitioner bills.
